In Ontario stilts can be used by construction workers in residential units and residential common areas only. They are still not allowed on commercial projects. On residential units or in home renovations, they can be used for the following purposes:
Stilts cannot be used on a scaffold or to climb up or down stairs.
Stilts should be commercially manufactured, made of unpainted metal, have a non-slip surface on the bottom of each base plate, be in good working condition and be suitable for their intended use. This training is valuable for anyone who needs to wear stilts when doing drywall finishing work or installing insulation and vapour barriers.
